How can we help?
A few answers for clubs and runners. Still unsure? Get in touch.
For clubs
Is it really free? What's the catch?
Yes. Listing your club, claiming it and managing its page (logo, photos, details) is free, and we have no plans to charge clubs. There's no subscription, and we never ask for payment details. To cover our running costs, we plan to offer optional paid promotion to event organisers. Any of it will be clearly labelled, and your free listing will never depend on it.
Where did you get our details?
Our research team built a basic listing from public information on your club's own website or social pages. Each invitation email links to the page where we found your contact. If anything's wrong, claim the listing and fix it, or tell us.
How do I claim my club's listing?
If you received an invitation email, open the personal link in it and sign up or sign in with the address it was sent to. Confirm your role to claim the listing. A valid, unused invitation can approve the claim immediately; expired links or conflicting claims need a team check. Otherwise, open your club's page, choose Claim this club, create a free account and fill in the short "Run this club?" form (your role, and a page that shows you run the club). We check it and approve it, usually quickly.
Someone else at the club should be the owner. Can I hand it over or use a different email?
Invitation links only work for the address they were sent to. If someone else, say your membership secretary, should claim instead, they can sign up with their own email and claim from the club's page. Don't use "Add a club", because that makes a second copy. Once you've claimed, you can also add other people as managers from your club dashboard, so several of you can keep the page up to date. To change the original club admin, email us and we'll sort it.
Can I update our details later?
Yes, as often as you like. Changes go live when you save, so don't worry about getting it perfect first. Session times, where you meet and who your runs suit help new runners most.
We run more than one group, for example a club and a free beginners' group. Can we list both?
Yes. Each distinct group can have its own listing. Once you have an approved claim for each, you can manage both from the same account.
We meet in different places on different days. Can the listing show that?
For now, put your different meets in your session details and description.
Our listing is a duplicate, out of date, or we're not really a running club.
Tell us and we'll fix it. We can merge or remove a duplicate, update the description (for example, a support group or walking group rather than a club), mark a group as no longer running, or take a seasonal course off the site until it restarts. Anyone can also suggest a correction from a club's page using Suggest a correction. We check corrections before they go live.
Can I take our club off the directory?
Yes. Email run@runclubdirectory.co.uk from a club address and we'll remove the listing. You can also stop invitation emails using the link at the bottom of any invitation, and you don't need an account to do that.
How is this different from England Athletics or just Googling us?
If someone already knows your club's name, they'll probably find you directly. We help the people who don't know what they're looking for yet: a beginner who wants a friendly group nearby, someone who can only run on Wednesdays, or someone who thinks an athletics club isn't for them. We list affiliated clubs and informal groups side by side, and every listing links back to your own website.
A club member left a review but we can't see it to approve it.
Reviews come to the RunClub Directory team to check, not to the club. That keeps them independent. Once we've checked a review, it appears on your page. Club managers can't rate their own club.
For runners
How do I find a club near me?
Search by town or postcode, or browse by area or running day. Each listing tells you when and where the club meets and who the runs suit, and links to the club's own site so you can get in touch or just turn up.
Do I need an account?
No. You can browse and save clubs without one, and your saves stay in your browser. A free account lets you keep saved clubs across devices, ask to join your clubs, write reviews and save events. It doesn't subscribe you to marketing emails.
How do reviews work?
Choose a display name, add the club to your clubs, then write your review. We check every review before it's published, and it appears with your display name. You can edit or delete it from your account at any time.
Events
What's on the events calendar?
Races and running events across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, from local 5Ks to marathons, with dates, distances and entry prices. We don't cover every race yet. If we've missed one, email us the organiser's link and we'll check the details.
If I mark an event as "Interested" or "I'm running", am I entered?
No. Saving a plan only records it for you. You still need to enter and pay through the organiser, and always check entry options and booking fees with them.
Can I see who from my club is going?
Yes, if they've chosen to share. Once a club manager has approved your membership, you'll see the events other approved members have chosen to share. Your own plans are private unless you tick the box to share them with your clubs or your friends.
Accounts and privacy
Will my name or photo be shown publicly?
Not unless you choose. Your runner profile is private by default. You decide whether to publish your display name, bio and town, and separately whether to show the clubs you run with. An optional profile photo follows those same settings, and it also appears beside event plans you've chosen to share with clubmates or friends. Event plans are never shown to signed-out visitors or sent to organisers.
Who can see my email address?
Only you and the RunClub Directory team. Club managers see your display name and membership status, not your email.
How do I delete my account?
From your account page, by confirming your password. This deletes your profile, saved clubs, club connections, event plans and reviews. See Your account data and our Privacy notice for the details.
Something's broken, or I've got an idea. Who do I tell?
Email run@runclubdirectory.co.uk. We read everything.
